Description

The Malia breakfast bowl is a deep round bowl in ceramic, 14.5cm across and 8cm high. The outside is finely fluted over the upper two thirds, the ribs running straight down before the wall turns under into a smooth rounded base. The glaze is a creamy oatmeal that sits paler over the ribs, and at the rim it breaks into a broad irregular band of olive and rust which runs a short way down over the fluting and repeats round the inside.

At 14.5cm across and 8cm deep it is sized for granola, cereal or porridge rather than for serving. It goes in the dishwasher and in the microwave. A jug is made in the same range.

The bowl is ceramic under a reactive glaze, which means the colour is made in the firing rather than painted on, and the tone shifts from piece to piece: the dark band at the rim runs broader on one bowl than on the next and drips further down the fluting. The Malia range runs to plates, mugs, bowls, a cup and saucer, jugs, a platter and a teapot in the same glaze.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

14.5cm across and 8cm deep.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes, and it is microwave safe.

What is it made from?

Ceramic, under a reactive glaze.

Will every bowl look the same?

Close, but not exactly. A reactive glaze takes its own tone in the firing, so the dark band at the rim falls differently on every bowl.

What else is in the range?

Plates, mugs, bowls, a cup and saucer, jugs, a platter and a teapot.

How should it be looked after?

Wash it after every use so that it does not stain, with a mild detergent, and do not leave it to soak. Handle it with care to avoid chipping.
