Description

The Malar is a wide, shallow bowl, 34cm across at its widest and 26cm the other way, standing 9cm tall on a small foot. The whole surface is hammered by hand, inside and out, so it is covered in shallow dents that each take the light at a different angle. The finish is an aged brass, warm across the open faces and darkened in the hollows.

At 34 by 26cm this is a bowl for a table or a console rather than a cupboard, and it stands on a sideboard. At 9cm deep the whole of the inside is visible from standing, so whatever goes in it is on show. The bowl is oval rather than round, so it lies along a surface rather than square on it.

The bowl is iron under an aged brass finish. Each one is shaped first and then hammered by hand, so the pattern of dents never comes out quite the same twice. It weighs 0.66kg.
