Description

A two tier stand in hammered aluminium with an antique brass finish, 43cm tall and 28cm across the lower tier. Two shallow dishes sit one above the other on a turned column, the upper dish the smaller of the two, and the column carries on past the top dish and finishes in a ring. The lower dish stands on a stepped pedestal foot. Both dishes are hammered across the centre and left smooth around the rim.

At 28cm across and 43cm tall it stands in the middle of a dining table and is read from both ends of it. The ring at the top means it can be lifted and carried in one hand while it is still loaded. The upper dish sits clear above the lower, so both can be reached across without moving the stand, and the smaller dish on top puts whatever is there at eye level first. It holds baubles and cut foliage as well as food.

The stand is aluminium, shaped by hand and finished in antique brass. The hammered texture is put on mark by mark with traditional metalworking tools, so the pattern across each dish is its own and the antique tone sits deeper in the hollows than on the high points. No two stands carry the same surface.
