Description

The MAGfire MR8 is an 8-zone relay module that expands MAG4, MAG8, MAG12 and MAG16 fire alarm control panels with eight independently activated relay switches. Each relay can be configured to trigger on a specific zone entering fire condition, giving granular control over automated fire response equipment such as door releases, dampers, extract fans, or building management system inputs.

Designed for commercial fire alarm installations where zone-specific automation is required, the MR8 connects to the main panel via a data bus and mounts inside a standard fire alarm enclosure or separately on DIN rail. Each of the eight relays offers both normally-open (N.O) and normally-closed (N.C) contacts on the blue terminal strip visible along the bottom edge of the module, allowing the installer to configure output behaviour to match the connected device.

The module runs Software version 1.2 as standard and supports zone select switching between Z1-Z8 and Z9-Z16 on MAG12 and MAG16 panels, giving a single module the ability to respond to any eight zones within a sixteen-zone system. The black ABS enclosure measures approximately 150mm wide by 110mm tall, and the screw terminals accept cable cores up to 2.5mm² for power and relay connections.

Each relay is rated for low-voltage fire alarm auxiliary outputs and is not intended for mains switching without an appropriate intermediate relay or contactor. The unit draws power from the fire panel's 24V auxiliary supply and includes status indication via the NO/NC LED array visible on the front label.

Frequently Asked

Which MAGfire panels is this compatible with?

The MR8 is compatible with MAG4, MAG8, MAG12 and MAG16 fire alarm control panels from ESP. It connects via the panel's expander data bus and draws power from the panel's 24V auxiliary supply.

Can the relays switch mains voltage?

No. The relay contacts are rated for low-voltage auxiliary outputs typical of fire alarm systems. For switching mains-powered equipment such as extract fans or HVAC plant, an intermediate contactor or mains-rated relay must be used.

What does the zone select switch do?

On MAG12 and MAG16 panels with more than eight zones, the zone select switch on the front label allows the MR8 to respond to either zones 1-8 or zones 9-16. This is configured during installation.

What's the difference between N.O and N.C outputs?

Normally-open (N.O) contacts close when the relay activates on a fire condition. Normally-closed (N.C) contacts open when the relay activates. The installer configures which behaviour is needed based on the connected equipment — for example, an N.C output is often used for door hold-open magnets that must release on fire.
