Description

The Madrisana is a bar stool in pale acacia with a rattan seat and a rattan back. The back is a rectangular panel woven in an open grid, loose enough to see the wall through it. The seat is woven tight and close, dipped a little in the middle and bowed out along the front edge. The frame is square in section and left unpainted, with a footrest across the front and rails linking the legs at two heights.

The seat sits 71cm from the floor and the stool stands 105cm to the top of the back. It is 46cm wide and 56cm deep at the floor, and the seat itself is 46cm across and 39cm deep. It was designed for a kitchen island, and two of them will pull up to a counter. A footrest runs across the front at the height of the side rails.

The frame is acacia and the seat and back are rattan, woven by hand, which is slow work and takes real skill. Because it is done by hand the weave runs slightly differently on every stool, and the unpainted wood puts the grain on show. Both acacia and rattan are renewable. The stool weighs 7kg. The Madrisana range also holds a woven chair in the same acacia and rattan.
