Description

A wreath 27cm across, built from small balls each woven by hand from wire and joined one to the next into a continuous ring. The balls are packed several rows deep across the face, so the ring reads as texture rather than as a line, and the gaps between them let the wall show through. The brass finish is warm and slightly uneven, catching on the outside of each ball and staying dark in the hollows between them.

It is made to hang, on a wall or a door, where the packed balls throw a broken shadow rather than a sharp one. Twenty-seven centimetres is a small wreath, sized for an internal door, a window, a cupboard face or the end of a run of shelves rather than for a front door. At 4cm deep it stands well clear of whatever it hangs against.

Every ball is woven by hand and then joined to the one beside it, so the ring is never quite regular and no two wreaths are alike. The metal is iron throughout under a brass finish, with no foliage and nothing else added to it. Madhi also runs at 42cm across, at 1.04kg against this one at 0.61kg.
