Description

The large Madhi is a ring 42cm across, made from small balls of woven wire joined one into the next the whole way round. The balls sit several rows deep, so the ring has real thickness and the light breaks over dozens of small curved surfaces instead of running along one edge. The brass finish is warmest on the outside of each ball and stays dark in the hollows between them. At 5cm deep the ring holds itself off whatever it hangs against.

Forty-two centimetres is the size for a front door, a chimney breast or a wide stretch of wall where a small wreath would be lost, and hung beside the 27cm Madhi the two read as a pair. It is made to hang, on a wall or a door, and it weighs 1.04kg.

Every ball is woven by hand before it is joined to the one beside it, so no two rings are packed quite the same and the outline is never perfectly true. The metal is iron under a brass finish, with no foliage and nothing else worked into it. Madhi also runs at 27cm across.
