Description

The LYYT surface mount LED strip profile is a 1m aluminium extrusion designed to house LED tape in a raised installation on walls or ceilings. The profile measures 57mm wide by 12mm high externally, with a 12mm x 7mm internal channel that accepts standard width LED strip. A snap-fit clear diffuser clips over the channel opening, and the kit includes matching end caps and surface mounting clips for secure fixing to plasterboard, timber or masonry.

Designed for kitchens, living rooms, retail displays and hospitality interiors where visible LED tape would look unfinished, the profile turns raw strip into an architectural lighting feature. The arched profile shape lifts the diffuser approximately 8.5mm from the mounting surface, creating a clean light line with no visible hotspotting from individual LED diodes. The 1m length suits shorter runs where longer sections would need cutting, or installations where space requires compact segments.

The clear diffuser transmits approximately 90% of the LED output while softening the point-source appearance of the tape beneath, so colour temperature and brightness remain close to the raw strip specification. The aluminium body provides a heat sink for the LED tape, extending diode lifespan compared to tape mounted directly onto non-conductive surfaces. The snap-fit diffuser can be removed for cleaning or tape replacement without dismantling the mounting clips.

What width LED strip does it take?

The 12mm x 7mm internal channel accepts standard 8mm, 10mm and 12mm width LED strip. The strip must be 7mm or less in total height including the adhesive backing to fit inside the profile without forcing the diffuser.

Can it be cut to shorter lengths?

Yes. The aluminium profile can be cut with a hacksaw or mitre saw to any length shorter than 1m. Cut ends will need deburring with fine sandpaper before fitting the end caps.

How is it mounted?

The kit includes surface mounting clips that screw or plug-fix to the wall or ceiling. The aluminium profile then clips into the mounting brackets. Typical spacing is one clip every 300-400mm along the run.

Does the clear diffuser reduce light output?

The clear polycarbonate diffuser transmits approximately 90% of the LED strip output while softening the point-source appearance of individual diodes. Colour temperature and brightness remain close to the raw strip specification.
