Description

A glass vase 30cm high and 24cm across, blown into an egg shape that swells low and draws in to a short plain neck. Fine vertical ribbing runs the full height of the body and stops just below the rim, leaving a smooth band at the top and a smooth rolled lip. The glass is clear and carries small bubbles through the wall, and a lustre coating gives the surface a faint sheen.

The opening measures 9cm, wide enough to take a handful of stems and narrow enough to gather them. At 30cm this is a table or sideboard vase rather than a floor one, and it stands in the middle of a dining table and holds branches. The ribbing breaks up whatever sits behind the glass, so stems below the water line read as texture rather than as separate lines.

The vase begins as recycled glass, collected and washed to remove impurities, then crushed and melted down and blown by hand into a mould before it is given its lustre coating. The bubbles and the small differences in wall thickness come from that, so no two are alike. Linsy runs in two sizes, this one and a 40cm with a 10cm opening, and in clear and in smoke brown.
