Description

The Laverna is a 120x92cm asymmetrical wall mirror built from multiple bevelled mirror panels with five hand-applied gold leaf insets arranged in an irregular geometric pattern. The faceted mirror surfaces are mounted onto a 2.5cm-thick lacquered black MDF backing, creating an angular sculptural form that sits flat against the wall at 21kg.

Designed for contemporary living rooms, dining rooms, home offices and hallways, the Laverna works both vertically and horizontally depending on wall proportion and furniture placement. The asymmetric geometry breaks up the rectangle of a standard mirror, whilst the gold leaf insets add warmth to rooms dominated by cool greys, whites or dark wood. The bevelled mirror edges catch and refract light at different angles depending on time of day and lamp position, giving the piece visual movement beyond a flat reflective surface.

Each gold leaf inset is hand-applied onto the mirror surface, so slight variation in the leaf pattern and texture between individual pieces is inherent to the technique. The lacquered black MDF backing provides a defined edge that separates the mirror from the wall colour and gives clean separation between the mirror facets and the gold panels. At 21kg the mirror requires two wall fixings into masonry or into wall studs; it is not suitable for hollow plasterboard without reinforcement.

Can the Laverna be hung horizontally?

Yes. The asymmetric geometry works in both vertical and horizontal orientation. Choose the orientation based on the wall proportion and the furniture arrangement below the mirror.

What wall fixings are needed?

At 21kg the mirror requires two secure wall fixings. For solid masonry walls use appropriate wall plugs and screws rated for the weight. For hollow plasterboard walls the fixings must locate into wall studs or use cavity anchors rated for at least 25kg per fixing.

Does the gold leaf vary between mirrors?

Yes. Each gold leaf inset is hand-applied, so slight variation in the leaf pattern, texture and tonal distribution between individual pieces is normal and part of the handcrafted nature of the mirror.

How is the gold leaf cleaned?

Wipe the mirror glass sections with standard glass cleaner and a soft cloth. For the gold leaf insets use only a dry microfibre cloth — avoid sprays, water and cleaning chemicals as they can damage the leaf surface.
