This is a stoneware dinner plate, 27cm across and 2cm tall, finished in a solid beige glaze. What makes it itself is the rim: a ring of soft flutes runs out from a smooth, flat centre and ends in a gently wavy, scalloped edge, so the plate looks a little like an open flower on the table. At 27cm it is a true dinner plate size, wide enough for a full main course with room to spare around the edge. It is made entirely of stoneware, a dense, hard-wearing clay body, and it weighs 1.08KG, so it feels solid and steady in the hand.
