Description

These are six stoneware bowls, each 12cm across and 6.5cm tall, glazed in green and holding 400ml. Fluted sides rise from the foot to the rim, so the light catches every ridge, and a fine darker line traces the edge of each rim. At 400ml, every bowl is an everyday small size rather than a deep serving dish: right for a morning portion of cereal, porridge or yoghurt, a pudding after dinner, or olives and nuts passed round the table. Stoneware is dense and holds heat well, which suits warm breakfasts and puddings.

With six in the set, there is one for everyone at a family breakfast, or enough for a small dinner party when dessert is served. They earn their place at weekday meals in the kitchen and at laid tables in the dining room alike: fruit salad at brunch, a side of rice or pickles beside a main dish, dips and crisps for friends in the garden on a summer evening. Because they go in the oven, they also work as individual dishes for a baked custard, a crumble or a small gratin, carried from the oven to the table in the same bowl. The green glaze brings colour to the table without pattern, which suits anyone who likes a calm, uncluttered setting.
