This pendant light has a shade shaped a little like an iced cake: three rounded tiers rise from a wide base and finish in a scalloped wave along the lower edge, where the shade steps out to a smooth rim. It is made of 100% iron in beige and measures 40cm across and 18cm tall, so it is broad and low rather than deep. An open, shallow shade spreads light wider than a deep, narrow one, which suits a table you want lit across its whole surface. At 1.2KG it is a proper piece of metalwork, not a lightweight cover.

Hang it over a round dining table or a kitchen table, where its 40cm width sits comfortably over the centre of the surface and its tiered outline gives the room a softer focal point than a plain dome. The cable is 250cm long, which leaves plenty of drop for a room with a tall ceiling as well as a standard one. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. The beige settles easily into a calm scheme of natural tones, and it holds its own just as well in a room full of bold colour, where the scalloped edge brings out the playful side of the space.
