Description

A stocking holder cast in brass in the shape of a fir tree: three stepped triangular tiers above a short trunk, standing 22cm tall and 12.5cm across. The tree rises from a flat arm 10cm long that lies along the top of a mantelpiece, and a hook curves down and back under the front edge to take the stocking. The casting is left slightly grainy and polished back by hand, so the brass reads warm rather than bright.

It weighs 3.42kg, and that is the point of it: the mass sits on the shelf and counterweights whatever hangs off the front, so a filled stocking does not pull the holder over the edge. It needs a shelf with about 10cm of clear depth and a front edge the hook can reach around. It stands at one end of a mantel, with a second holder at the other.

The piece is brass throughout. Each one is sandcast on its own and then finished by hand, so the tone and the grain of the surface differ from holder to holder. Kotta runs the same holder with a star in place of the tree. The stocking is not included.

Frequently Asked

How does it fix to the mantelpiece?

It does not fix. A flat arm 10cm long lies along the top of the shelf and the weight holds it there, with the hook curving down over the front edge.

How heavy is it?

3.42kg, which is what stops a filled stocking pulling it off the shelf.

How big is it?

22cm tall and 12.5cm across, on a 10cm arm.

What is it made of?

Brass, sandcast and then finished by hand.

How do I look after it?

A dry soft cloth for dust, and careful handling. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off the finish. Indoor use only.
