Kossi Small Glass Storage Jar - Clear

A clear glass storage jar, 16.5cm tall and 11cm across, with a solid mango wood lid and a wooden spoon held against the side. The body is a straight cylinder with a slight kick at the base, and the glass carries fine bubbles and seeds through the wall. The lid is a plain disc of mango wood that drops into the neck and sits flush with the rim. A clear glass loop is fixed to the outside of the jar, and the spoon slots through it and hangs down the side of the body.

At 16.5cm this is the smaller of the two Kossi jars, about the height of a mug on an open shelf. A row of them sits along a kitchen shelf, and each takes salt, peppercorns or dried herbs, with its spoon hanging on the outside. Clear glass means the contents and the level show without lifting the lid, which suits an open shelf or a worktop rather than a closed cupboard. The jar is for dry food only.

The jar and the loop are glass, and the lid and the spoon are mango wood. Mango is grown first for its fruit and cut for timber only once the trees have stopped bearing, which is what makes the wood available and lets the growers replant. Each lid is cut from solid wood, so the grain runs differently from jar to jar. Kossi also comes in a larger size, 22cm tall and 12.5cm across.
