Description

The Konara large is a tealight holder blown from recycled glass, 16cm tall and 16cm across, built as a barrel with a rounded base and a rim left slightly uneven. The upper half carries a copper finish that is opaque and heavily pitted, and it stops in a clear horizontal line about halfway down. Below that line the glass is translucent smoked gold and is carried all over by a fine web of fractures.

Lit, the flame sits behind the lower half, so the light comes through the fractured glass and the copper band above stays dark. Sixteen centimetres across leaves a tealight a great deal of room, and the holder is wide enough to read as an object on a sideboard with nothing in it. At 1.3kg it stays where it is set down.

The glass is recycled. Waste glass is collected and washed to remove impurities, then crushed and melted down before it is mouth-blown into the mould, and the copper is applied to the upper part afterwards. Konara runs at 9cm and 13cm in the same copper smoke as well as this 16cm size. The tealight is not included.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

16cm tall and 16cm across, and it weighs 1.3kg.

Is the copper over the whole surface?

No. It covers the upper half and stops in a line about halfway down. Below that the glass is translucent.

What other sizes are there?

Two. Konara runs at 9cm and at 13cm in the same copper smoke.

Is the glass recycled?

Yes. The waste glass is collected and washed to remove impurities, then crushed and melted down before it is mouth-blown into the mould.

How do I look after it?

A dry soft cloth for dust, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off the finish. Indoor use only. Position the tealight securely and keep the flame clear of the glass. It gets hot in use, so let it cool fully before handling it, keep it out of reach of children, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
