Description
The Knightsbridge Smart Recess Mount PIR Sensor is a Wi-Fi-connected ceiling PIR that detects motion within a 4.5m radius and 360° field when installed at 2.5m height, sending instant push notifications to the SmartKnight app when movement is detected. The sensor recesses into a 68mm ceiling cut-out with a 100mm white polycarbonate trim ring visible on the ceiling surface, projecting just 14mm below the plasterwork once fitted.
Designed for home security monitoring and automation, the sensor connects directly to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks without requiring a separate gateway or hub device. Once paired to the SmartKnight app, the sensor can trigger automation routines — turning lights on when motion is detected in a hallway, activating cameras when movement occurs in an empty room, or alerting a phone when motion is detected while the home is unoccupied. The sensor can switch loads up to 2000W for incandescent or 400W/600VA for LED and energy-saving lamps when wired through compatible smart switches or relays.
The 60mm recessed depth fits standard UK ceiling voids and the sensor wires directly to 230V mains through the rear housing. The white polycarbonate construction and IP20 rating suit dry indoor locations including hallways, landing areas, living rooms and bedrooms. The Class II double-insulated design means no earth connection is required during installation. The 360° detection angle provides full room coverage from a single ceiling-mounted sensor, unlike wall-mounted PIRs that cover only a segment of the space.

Frequently Asked
Does this require a separate hub or gateway?
No. The sensor connects directly to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks and is controlled through the SmartKnight app on iOS or Android devices. If your router broadcasts both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, you may need to temporarily disable the 5GHz band during initial pairing — consult your router manual for instructions.
What is the detection range and angle?
The sensor detects motion up to 4.5m radius with a full 360° field of view when installed at 2.5m ceiling height. This provides whole-room coverage from a single ceiling-mounted sensor.
Can it trigger other smart devices?
Yes. Through the SmartKnight app, the sensor can trigger automation routines to turn compatible smart lights, switches or cameras on or off when motion is detected. The sensor can also switch loads up to 2000W incandescent or 400W/600VA LED when wired through appropriate control devices.
What ceiling void depth is needed?
The sensor recesses 60mm above the ceiling surface and requires a 68mm diameter cut-out. Standard UK ceiling voids typically provide adequate depth, but shallow voids or concrete ceilings may require surface-mount alternatives.
