Description
The Knightsbridge T5135EM is a 5ft emergency lighting batten designed for corridors, stairwells, offices and commercial buildings requiring maintained or non-maintained emergency lighting. The pressed steel body houses a single T5 35W fluorescent lamp socket (lamp sold separately) and a high-frequency ballast that reduces flicker and extends lamp life compared to conventional magnetic ballasts.
The batten operates in three emergency modes: maintained (lamp on continuously, switching to battery in mains failure), non-maintained (lamp off normally, activating only during power failure), or switched (lamp controlled by a wall switch, reverting to battery on mains loss). The 3-hour emergency battery backup meets UK emergency lighting standards for most commercial applications. The fitting can be surface-mounted or suspended from ceilings or walls, with fixing points concealed inside the steel body.
At 1475mm long, 63mm wide and 82.5mm deep, the batten provides linear illumination across a 5ft run without gaps. The white powder-coated steel finish blends into most ceiling and wall surfaces in educational, retail and office environments. Polycarbonate end caps protect the lamp terminals and wiring from dust ingress, though the IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor areas only. The fitting is Class I and requires earth connection during installation.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between maintained, non-maintained and switched modes?
Maintained mode keeps the lamp on continuously and switches to battery backup during power failure. Non-maintained mode leaves the lamp off under normal conditions and activates only when mains power is lost. Switched mode allows the lamp to be controlled by a wall switch but automatically activates on battery if mains power fails while the switch is in the off position.
Does the lamp come included?
No. The batten requires one T5 35W fluorescent tube, sold separately. Standard 1449mm T5 tubes fit this 5ft fitting.
How long does the battery backup last?
The emergency battery provides 3 hours of backup illumination during mains power failure, meeting UK Building Regulations for most commercial premises.
Can this be used in bathrooms or outdoor areas?
No. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor areas only. For bathrooms, wet rooms or outdoor covered areas, a higher IP-rated emergency batten is required.
