Description
A glazed box lantern in antique brass, 42cm across the front and 40cm tall, with a shallow hood arched front to back over the top of it. The corner posts are rounded rather than square, which takes the hard edge off the whole outline, and one of the four sides is hinged as a door with a small wire loop to hold it shut. The box sits on a solid metal plinth and the floor inside is a plain metal plate.
It takes a pillar candle, which stands on that floor, and a broad church candle suits it better than a slim one. At 40cm tall over a 42cm front this is a sideboard, mantelpiece or hearth piece rather than a table centre, where it would stand in the line of sight across. Glass on all four sides puts the flame in view from anywhere in the room, and there is no handle, so it stays where it is set down.
Iron makes the frame, the hood and the plinth, and the four panels are glass. The antique brass is uneven across the pressed hood and darker in the seams, and the plinth carries the same finish. Kiwanda also runs as a wide lantern, 24cm tall on the same 42cm front. The candle is not included.

Frequently Asked
How big is it?
42cm across the front, 40cm tall and 17cm deep.
What candle does it take?
A pillar candle, standing on the metal floor inside. There is no socket, so the diameter is open to you.
How does it open?
One of the four glazed sides is hinged as a door, held shut by a small wire loop.
Is there another shape?
Yes. Kiwanda also runs as a wide lantern, 24cm tall on the same 42cm front.
Can it go outside?
No. Indoor use only.
How do I look after it?
A soft dry cloth over the metal, and a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. Warm water with a mild dish soap will take off wax; dry it straight away and do not leave it to soak. It gets hot in use, so let it cool fully before handling it and never leave a burning candle unattended.
