Description

The Kitto storage jar is a straight sided cylinder of clear glass, 25cm tall and 13cm across, holding 1850ml. The body is dimpled all over with a soft, irregular texture that breaks the light up, while the neck and the foot are left smooth. The lid is cut from a single block of mango wood: a round plug that drops into the neck, a square flange that sits down on the rim, and a raised loop above it with an oblong cut out through the middle to take a finger. The glass carries a faint green cast at the foot.

At 1850ml this is the larger of the two Kitto jars, and it is made for the front of an open shelf rather than the back of a cupboard, where what is inside shows through the glass. The wooden lid has an airtight seal and the jar is for dry food only, so grains, pulses, pasta and coffee are what it is built around. The handle is cut deep enough to lift the lid with one finger.

The jar is recycled glass and the lid is mango wood. The glass is made from waste glass melted down and blown or moulded again, which is where the faint green in it comes from, and the dimpling falls differently on every jar. The Kitto jar is also made in a smaller size.
