Description

A portrait brass frame, 50cm tall by 35cm wide and 1cm deep, with glass on the front and the back and no board behind it. A brass chain crosses the top between two rings, and the frame itself is a narrow flat band of metal soldered round the edge of the glass. The antique finish leaves the brass warm and mottled rather than bright.

Hung portrait, it takes a photograph, a print or a pressed flower in an upright format, and because there is nothing behind the glass the paper is seen against the wall with the margins showing through. A wall of these frames hangs together at several sizes, spaced so that the chains read as part of the arrangement. At 2.82kg it needs a fixing that will hold it.

The frame is brass and the glazing is glass. The soldering is done by hand with traditional tools, so weld marks sit on the joins of every frame and the finish comes out rustic rather than regular. The same frame is made square, and in landscape.

Frequently Asked

What size is it?

50cm tall by 35cm wide, and 1cm deep. It hangs portrait.

How does it hang?

On the brass chain across the top. It is wall hung.

What is behind the artwork?

Glass. There is no board, so the wall shows through wherever the paper does not reach.

What can go in it?

Prints, photographs, sketches, montages and keepsakes.

Why are there marks on the metal joins?

The frame is soldered together by hand, and the weld marks are left as they come.

How should it be looked after?

Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth so that dust and dirt do not build up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass.
