Description

The Kiko Gigantic is a landscape picture frame 50cm wide and 35cm tall, and the frame is little more than a soldered brass edge holding two panes of glass together. There is no backing board and no mount. A photograph, a pressed leaf or a sketch goes between the two panes and is held there by small brass clips along the edges, so the wall shows through the glass all around it. A fine brass chain runs between two loops at the top corners.

Because the glass is clear on both sides, whatever sits behind the frame shows through it, so a plain wall suits it better than a patterned one. At 50cm across it is large enough to hang on its own above a bed or a sideboard, and it hangs equally well in a row of two or three at a matching height. The chain runs up to a single point, so it goes on one hook rather than two that have to be levelled against each other, and at 1cm deep it sits flat to the wall.

The frame is brass and the panes are glass. The metal is soldered around the glass by hand and the weld marks show at the joins. The brass is not left bright: the surface is antiqued, and it darkens unevenly along the edges and into the corners. Kiko runs from a 5 x 5cm frame up to this one, in portrait as well as landscape, with a 36 x 36cm square in the same style. This frame is sold singly.

Frequently Asked

What size picture does it take?

The glass measures 50 by 35cm and there is no mount, so anything smaller than that sits on the glass with the wall showing around it.

Does it come with the glass?

Yes, two panes. The picture goes between them.

How does it hang?

On the brass chain fitted between two loops at the top corners, from a single hook. The frame is 1cm deep.

Is it sold as a pair?

No. This is one frame, in landscape. The same frame is made in portrait, and there is a square one at 36 by 36cm.

How do I look after it?

Wipe the brass regularly with a soft, dry cloth to stop dust building up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass.
