Description

A photo frame that holds the picture between two sheets of glass, bound at the edges with a narrow band of brass in an antique finish. It measures 36cm wide and 29cm high and hangs on the landscape axis, with a small ring at each top corner and a printed sari tie knotted through both. The brass is soldered around the glass by hand, so the joins at the corners carry the marks of the work rather than reading as a machined edge.

It hangs from one nail or hook, with the tie looped over it and the frame sitting below. Hung above a sideboard among smaller Kiko frames in mixed sizes and orientations, the ties hold the whole group at the same visual weight. Because the picture is held between glass rather than behind a mount, the wall shows through around it, so a print narrower than the frame reads as floating on the wall. A frame this wide will take two prints side by side.

The frame is glass and brass. Each tie is cut from recycled sari fabric and no two carry the same pattern, so no two frames are alike. Kiko is made in the same extra large size on the portrait axis, and in smaller sizes down to a 4 by 6 inch aperture. The print is not included.

Frequently Asked

What size picture does it take?

The frame is 36cm wide and 29cm high. The print sits between two sheets of glass rather than behind a mount, so anything smaller than that will show the wall around it.

How does it hang?

From the printed sari tie, which is knotted through a ring at each top corner. One nail or hook carries it.

Is it made in portrait?

Yes. The same extra large frame is made on the portrait axis.

Why are there marks on the corners?

The metal is soldered around the glass with traditional tools, and that handmade process leaves weld marks on the joins of each piece.

How should it be looked after?

Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth so dust does not build up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass.
