Description
The Kiko is a photo frame made of two sheets of glass held in a soldered brass edge, with nothing behind the picture. It takes a 5 by 7 inch photograph in portrait, and the frame measures 18cm tall by 13cm wide and 1cm deep. Two small loops at the top corners carry a printed sari tie, which is what it hangs from.
Because the glass is clear front and back, whatever goes in it is seen against the wall rather than against a mount, which suits a pressed leaf, a postcard, a ticket or a drawing as much as a photograph. It is made to hang, and the tie loops straight over a nail or a hook. Several hang together above a chest of drawers in mixed sizes and orientations, each on its own tie. One frame is supplied.
The frame is glass and brass. The metal is soldered around the glass by hand with traditional tools, which leaves weld marks at the joins, and the brass is left rough rather than polished. Each frame is strung with a recycled sari tie, and every tie is cut from a different length of fabric, so no two are alike. The Kiko frame is made at 4 by 6, 5 by 7 and 8 by 10 inches, each in portrait and in landscape.

Frequently Asked
What size photograph does it take?
5 by 7 inches, in portrait.
How does it hang?
From a recycled sari tie, threaded through two small loops at the top corners.
Is there a mount or a backing board?
No. It is glass front and back, so whatever you put in it is seen against the wall behind.
Why are there marks on the joins?
The metal is soldered around the glass by hand with traditional tools, and the weld marks at the joins are what that process leaves behind.
How do I look after it?
Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth so that dust and dirt do not build up. For the glass, use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion.
