Description

The Kiko is a landscape photo frame built from two sheets of glass held in a narrow brass channel, finished in antique brass. A picture sits between the sheets rather than behind a card mount, so its edges show against the glass. Two small brass rings are soldered to the top edge near the corners and a printed cotton tie is knotted through them, so the tie hangs above the frame as part of it.

It takes a 4 x 6 inch picture in landscape, and the glass front and back will hold a postcard, a ticket or a drawing just as well. It hangs from the tie on a single hook or nail rather than from a fixing on the back. A wall of them in three sizes and both orientations hangs at staggered heights, the ties left showing.

The frame is brass around glass. The metal is soldered around the glass by hand with traditional tools, and the weld marks are left where the joins meet. Each tie is cut from a recycled sari, so no two are alike. The brass frames run in 4 x 6, 5 x 7 and 8 x 10 inch, each in portrait and landscape.
