Kibibi Mango Wood Candlestick - Natural

A candlestick turned from a single piece of mango wood, 23cm tall on a base 13cm across. The profile runs from a wide flat disc foot up through a flared trumpet into a turned ball, then an upturned cup, a short neck and a flat round top. The wood is left natural and unsealed, so pale grain runs through darker streaks and the sawn edge of the base shows the end grain.

The top is flat rather than socketed, so it takes a pillar candle and the diameter is open. At 23cm it stands well above a table setting, which puts it on a mantelpiece, a windowsill or a hearth rather than between plates, and the 13cm foot gives it a wide footing for the height. One candlestick is supplied.

The wood is mango, cut from trees once they have stopped bearing fruit, which is what makes the timber available and gives the grower a second income from it. Every candlestick is turned from its own piece, so the figure and the tone differ from one to the next. The candle is not included.

How many come in a box?

One.

What candle does it take?

A pillar candle. The top is flat rather than socketed, so the diameter is open to you.

How big is it?

23cm tall on a base 13cm across.

Is the wood treated?

No. It is left natural and unsealed.

How do I look after it?

Wash with a mild dish soap and warm water after each use to take off wax, and do not leave it to soak. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away. An edible oil such as olive or walnut rubbed into the wood with a cloth will protect it, though it will darken the tone.

Does it get hot in use?

Yes. Stand the candle securely, keep it out of reach of children, let it cool fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
