Description

A bench 125cm long, 51cm tall and 40cm deep, upholstered in a cotton and linen blend in a natural off white with a fine stripe woven through it. The seat is a loose pillow laid over the upholstered rail, with a rolled edge standing proud at the front and at both ends. The four legs are mango wood, turned to a taper with a collar under the rail and shaped by hand, and they are left pale.

At 125cm long and 40cm deep it takes little floor space against a wall, and at the foot of a bed the seat sits just below the mattress line. A hallway, a bedroom or the end of a bed are the three places it is made for. At 51cm the seat is at an ordinary chair height, so it is as usable for putting shoes on as for laying things down.

The cover is a cotton and linen blend and the legs are mango wood. The stripe is woven into the fabric rather than printed on it. Mango is a by-product of the fruit industry, cut for timber only once the trees have finished bearing, which gives farmers a second income from the same crop.

Larger or more stubborn stains should go to a professional. Keep it out of direct sunlight, which will fade the natural dyes and yarns.
