Description

A set of four hanging Christmas baubles, each one an elongated teardrop of hand blown recycled glass that comes to a point at the base and narrows to a collar at the top. The glass is a clear yellow green, bright where the light passes straight through it and deeper along the soft vertical ribs that run down the body. A fine crackle carries right through the wall in a web of hairlines. Each bauble sits in a dark metal collar with a stamped pattern and a ring, and hangs from a soft pale fabric tie knotted through the ring.

All four are the same shape and the same colour, so they hang as a run rather than a mixture. With light behind it, the crackle takes each point and scatters it along the hairlines instead of holding it as one reflection. Four will dress a wreath or one side of a small tree, and on a full sized tree they work as a group on a branch rather than singly. The tie is soft and long enough to knot straight over a branch without a hook.

Each bauble is hand blown from recycled glass and shaped into the teardrop while it is still hot, and the crackle is worked in at the same stage, crazing the glass right through. The web of hairlines falls differently on every one. The glass stays glossy and see through rather than turning matt, so the crazing reads as lines held inside the wall rather than as a texture on the outside of it.
