Description

The large Khara rabbit stands 16.5cm and measures 10cm across the body. Two rounded masses sit one on the other, the larger below and the smaller above, and a pair of long flat ears rises from the top of the head and tapers to a point. There is no face and no feet. The grain runs in bands around each curve and darkens where the rings cross it, and the ears carry the straightest run of grain on the piece.

At 16.5cm the large rabbit carries a mantelpiece or a hall table on its own, where the small one at 11cm wants company. Stood together, the two read as a pair rather than a repeat, because the gap in height is wide enough to see. The base of the body is cut flat, so it stands on a level surface with nothing to prop it.

The wood is mango, cut and shaped by hand. Every rabbit comes out of a different piece, so the run of the grain and the depth of the colour are never repeated. Khara is made in this large size and in a small at 11cm tall and 7cm across.
