Kera Wood & Metal Floor Lamp Base - Antique Brass

The Kera is a floor lamp base that reaches over rather than standing straight. A wide flared foot spreads on the floor, a slender tapering column of natural mango wood rises from it, and above a brass collar the metal continues as a slim arm that curves up and forward, ending in a short horizontal drop with the lampholder beneath. The wood is left pale with the grain and its darker streaks visible, and the metal is finished in antique brass. It stands 167cm, the tallest of these bases.

Height and reach do different jobs. At 167cm the lampholder sits well above standing eye level, so the bulb is out of sight from anywhere in a room, and the curved arm carries the shade clear of the column so it hangs over a chair rather than beside it. The flared foot is what makes that safe: the weight is all at floor level. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W and the flex runs 2.5m, which is shorter than most here, so check the distance to a socket before choosing a corner.

The column is mango wood turned on a lathe and the arm and foot are aluminium in an antique brass finish, shaped and polished by hand. Each column is turned individually, so the taper and the grain differ from one base to the next. At 5.6kg it is heavy for its slimness. No shade and no bulb are included.

Does a shade come with it?

No, this is the base alone. The shade hangs from the end of the curved arm, so a medium drum suits it better than anything wide or heavy.

How long is the cable?

2.5m, which is a metre shorter than most of the floor lamps here. Measure to the socket before settling on a corner.

Is the metal solid brass?

No. The arm and foot are aluminium in an antique brass finish, so the colour is a surface rather than the material.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it, then a soft dry cloth on both the wood and the metal. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off the finish.
