Description

These are three stoneware mugs, each holding 250ml, which is a proper everyday mug size with room for a full cup of tea or a generous milky coffee. Each one is 8cm across and 9cm tall, a compact, upright shape with a squared loop handle. The set is multicoloured: every mug has its own glaze and its own leaf pattern, so no two match, yet the shared shape and the band of bare stoneware at the foot tie the three together on a shelf or a tray.

They belong in the kitchen as the mugs you reach for first each morning, and they look just as good left out on an open shelf or hung on a mug tree as tucked away in a cupboard. At 250ml they suit tea, coffee and hot chocolate equally well, and they are a sensible size for a desk at home or a quiet coffee break. Each mug is made from 100% stoneware, glazed inside and over most of the outside, with the leaf motifs and the foot left as bare clay, so the pattern stands out in the natural tone of the clay against the glossy glaze. Stoneware is a dense, hard-wearing ceramic that holds heat well. Care is simple: the mugs go in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, so a forgotten coffee can go straight back in the microwave. For styling, mix the three glazes rather than lining them up in a row, and set the bare stoneware bases against natural wood or linen to bring out their earthy contrast.
