Description

A five pointed star woven from strips of natural cane, 24cm across and 4.5cm deep, set on a cone of gold coloured wire that seats over the top of a tree. The weave is open, so the star reads as a lattice rather than a solid shape and whatever stands behind it shows through. The cane is pale, and it darkens at every point where one strip crosses another.

Set over a leading shoot the whole piece stands 31cm above the branch it sits on, so a tree that already reaches the ceiling will not take it. Because the star is open rather than solid, lights carried into the upper branches show straight through the weave instead of stopping at it. At 0.18kg it asks little of the shoot it stands on.

The cane is woven over a wire frame of iron finished in gold, which holds the star flat and carries the cone below it. Each one is woven by hand, so the strips fall differently across every star and no two lattices are the same. Nothing is supplied to fix it beyond the cone, which drops over the shoot.

Frequently Asked

How does it fix to the tree?

A cone of wire below the star drops over the leading shoot at the top. There is no clip and nothing to tie.

How big is it?

24cm across the star, and 31cm tall overall including the wire cone.

What is the star made from?

Woven cane over an iron wire frame finished in gold.

Does it light up?

No. The weave is open, so the tree lights below show through it.

How do I look after it?

A dry soft cloth for dust, and careful handling. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off the finish. Indoor use only.
