Description

The Kaso small is a lantern 45cm tall on a 17cm square base. Four clear glass panels are held in a metal frame finished in aged antique brass, and one of them is hinged as a door with a small wire loop for a catch. Above them the hood is a shallow arch pressed from sheet metal with a round vent at the top, and a deep arched handle is hinged into it. The floor inside is a plain metal plate and the frame stands on four short feet at the corners of the base.

It takes a pillar candle, standing on the metal floor rather than dropping into a socket, so the diameter is open. Glass on all four sides means the flame shows from every direction, which suits a hearth, a hall floor or a doorway that gets walked past rather than a table it is only seen from one side of. The handle takes a whole hand, so it carries from room to room. Stood beside the 65cm Kaso, the two make a stepped pair rather than a matched one.

The frame is iron and the panels are glass. The brass is left rustic and sits unevenly over the metal, darker in the hollows of the pressing and patchy across the hood, so no two lanterns weather in quite the same way. Kaso also runs at 65cm on the same 17cm square base. The candle is not included.
