Description

The Kashi is an armchair 94cm wide and 84cm deep, upholstered in natural linen over a solid mango wood base. The arms roll outward at the top and stop short of the back, the back itself is straight, and a loose lumbar cushion sits in front of it. One deep seat cushion runs the full width. The upholstery is carried down over a low wooden plinth and finished with a line of dark antique studs along the top of the wood, and the chair stands on four turned feet.

The seat is 52cm high, 56cm wide and 65cm deep. Sixty-five centimetres is deep for a seat, so it is a chair to sit back in, with the lumbar cushion filling the gap at the small of the back. As an occasional chair it is wide enough at 94cm to read as a small armchair rather than a bedroom chair, and it turns in towards a sofa with a side table between the two.

The chair is upholstered by hand in linen over a solid mango wood frame that is carved and turned rather than machined, and the wood is a by-product of mango farming. The linen is left its own colour, an oatmeal with the slub of the yarn showing across the arms and the seat. The studs are set one by one along the front and the sides of the plinth. It weighs 27.4kg.

Frequently Asked

How high is the seat?

52cm from the floor, and 65cm deep.

Are the cushions loose?

Yes. Both the seat cushion and the smaller back cushion are loose.

What is the frame made from?

Solid mango wood, carved and turned by hand.

What is the upholstery?

Natural linen.

How heavy is it?

27.4kg.

How do I look after it?

Vacuum or brush the surface regularly to lift dust, but never with a rotating vacuum head, which damages the fibres. Blot a small spill with an absorbent tissue, then with a sponge or folded towel wrung out in lukewarm water, and dry the area with warm air from a hair dryer to avoid water marks. Larger stains should go to a professional. Keep the chair out of direct sunlight, which fades natural dyes and yarns.
