Description

The Kando P/76/R is an outdoor floor lamp in the shape of a lantern: a cylinder of nautical cord held inside an open frame of teak wood, with a dark brown disc across the top and slim crossbars at the foot. It comes in Brown & Teak Sand Nautical Cord, so warm honey-toned teak meets sand-coloured cord, and it measures 49cm across. The light is an integrated LED, so there is never a bulb to buy or change, and its 114lm output glows softly through the vertical strands of cord, a gentle light for setting a mood rather than for reading by.

Because it is rated IP44, it suits outdoor use, on a terrace, a patio, a balcony or a roof garden. It runs on a rechargeable battery charged by USB-C, so it needs no wiring: we like it at the edge of a deck or beside an outdoor sofa for the evening, and it comes indoors to the living room when the weather turns. Standing on the floor at 49cm across, it gives a seating area a soft, lantern-like glow at ground level, and it makes an easy companion for long summer dinners outside.

The frame is teak wood and the shade is nautical cord, with aluminium and polycarbonate making up the rest of the lamp. Slim crossbars join the three teak uprights at the top and again near the floor, leaving the cord cylinder open to view on every side, while the dark brown disc closes it neatly at the top. It is a Class III fitting and works at 5V DC, so there is no mains cable to run out across the garden. When the battery runs low, simply recharge it by USB-C and it is ready for the next evening on the terrace.
