Description

The Kando P/111/R is a rechargeable outdoor floor lamp: a cylinder of sand nautical cord held inside a teak wood frame, with a brown disc on top and a three-legged base. The light source is an integrated LED, so there is never a bulb to change, and it glows softly through the close-set cord at 114 lumens, a gentle ambient light rather than one for reading. It measures 49cm across and comes in the Brown & Teak Sand Nautical Cord finish, pairing honey-toned wood with a sandy shade.

Rated IP44 and made for outdoor use, it sits happily on a patio, a terrace or a covered porch, and it is just as at home indoors in a living room. Because it runs on a rechargeable battery rather than a cable, you can place it wherever you are sitting: beside an outdoor sofa, at the end of a garden dining table, or in a quiet corner of the sitting room when the evenings draw in. We think it works best as a low, welcoming glow that marks out a seating area instead of flooding it with light, and several placed along a path or around a terrace give a relaxed, lantern-like feel.

It is made from aluminium, teak wood, nautical cord and polycarbonate, with the teak frame rising above the shade to a crossbar at the top and the cord wrapped closely around the cylinder. Power comes from a rechargeable battery, charged by USB-C, and the lamp runs at 5V DC as a Class III fitting, so it can stand well away from the house. Charge it during the day, set it out as the light fades, and top it up by USB-C whenever it needs it.
