Description

The Kando P/111/R is a lantern-style floor lamp: a tall cylinder of pleated White Translucent Ribbon, capped with a dark disc and held inside a slim brown frame of three uprights that meet in a three-armed foot. The light comes from an integrated LED, so there is no bulb to buy or change, and it gives 250lm, a gentle glow through the ribbon rather than a bright working light. It runs on a rechargeable battery, charged by USB-C, at 5V DC. The lamp measures 49cm across, so allow a little floor space for it.

Because it runs on a battery, there is no flex to route across the floor once it is charged, and you can set it wherever it looks best in a living room: beside the sofa, in a bare corner, or next to an armchair where a softer light suits the evening. We think it suits anyone who likes natural wood and calm, diffused light more than a hard overhead glare. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only. When you want the glow somewhere else in the room, simply move it, and charge it again by USB-C when the battery runs low.

The lamp is made from aluminium, teak wood, ribbon and polycarbonate. The ribbon is gathered into fine vertical pleats around the cylinder, so when the LED is on the folds show as soft stripes of light and shade. The brown structure frames the white shade from three sides and rises just above it, where the three uprights are joined at the top. It is a Class III fitting running at 5V DC from its own rechargeable battery, so there is nothing to wire in and no bulb to replace. Charge it by USB-C, stand it on its three-armed foot, and it is ready for the evening.
