Kalsi Large Recycled Glass Pendant Light - Lustre

The Kalsi is a tall glass flagon: straight sided for most of its length, curving in at the shoulder to a short neck with a brass collar and chain above it. The glass carries a lustre finish, a thin iridescent film that takes it from clear at the rim to a warm smoky gold across the shoulder and shifts as you move around it. The lampholder is brass and hangs inside on a visible stem. This is the large: 46.5cm tall and 31cm across.

Lustre changes what a clear pendant does. The film is thin enough to see the bulb through but dense enough to tint what passes, so the light leaves warmer than it went in and the glass itself holds colour when the lamp is off. Straight sides mean most of that light goes downward out of the open base rather than sideways, which makes it a fitting for over a table or an island rather than for lighting a room. At 46.5cm it needs height above it. It takes one E27 bulb up to 70W, the flex runs 2m, and it is rated IP20.

The glass is recycled and blown by hand, so the profile, the wall thickness and the depth of the lustre differ from one to the next: two hung side by side will not match exactly. The collar and chain are brass. The Kalsi range also holds a small size, 36cm tall and 23.5cm across. Bulbs are not included.

What is a lustre finish?

A thin iridescent film on the glass. It reads as a warm smoky gold that shifts as you move past it, and it tints the light passing through rather than blocking it.

Will two hung together match?

Closely, not exactly. Each is blown by hand and the lustre takes differently on every one, so expect variation in depth of colour between them.

Is the bulb visible?

Through the lustre, yes, though softened and warmed by it rather than shown plainly as clear glass would.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let the glass cool, then a soft dry cloth. The lustre is a surface film, so avoid anything abrasive.
