Kali Round Glass Storage Jar - Natural & Clear

The Kali is a round glass jar with a mango wood lid and a wooden spoon, 7.5cm high and 8.75cm across. The glass bellies out at the middle and draws in to a short neck with a rolled rim, and it is rippled all over rather than smooth, so the surface runs in soft waves and carries a faint green cast. The lid is a disc of mango wood with a turned knob on top, and a notch is cut in its edge for the spoon, which stands in the jar with its handle out through the notch.

At 8.75cm across this is a small jar, for the things that get used a spoonful at a time and live on the table rather than in a cupboard: sugar, salt flakes, sprinkles, seeds. The spoon comes with it and the lid closes over the handle through the notch, so the spoon stays in the jar between uses.

The jar is recycled glass and the lid and the spoon are mango wood. Waste glass is melted down and moulded, then hammered with traditional tools, which is where the rippled surface comes from and why it falls differently on every jar. Mango timber is taken once the tree has stopped bearing fruit, which is what makes it available. Both the glass and the wood are food safe. The Kali jar is also made in a tall shape.
