Description

The Javanee medium stands 26cm on a foot 6.5cm across. A wide trumpet foot draws in to a stem carrying two hammered beads, one above the other with a short plain length between them, and above the upper bead the stem opens into a long narrow cup that takes a taper candle. Every part of it is worked in broad hammered facets rather than turned smooth.

At 26cm the flame sits above the line of sight across a table, so this height reads better from a sideboard, a mantel or a hall shelf than from the middle of a place setting. The bead count is what separates the three Javanee sizes rather than their proportions: one at 19cm, two here, three at 33cm, all of them on the same 6.5cm foot. It is made for indoor and outdoor use.

The piece is iron throughout, under an antique brass finish that sits lighter on the raised planes than in the hollows. Each one is worked by hand, so the facets fall differently on every holder and no two carry the finish in the same places. It weighs 0.55kg over a 6.5cm foot, which keeps the weight low for the height. The candle is not included.
