Description

Three glass baubles shaped as pears, each 8cm tall and 6cm across, with soft lobes running from the cap down over the shoulder to the base. The colour runs green at the top into an antique gold across the lower half, speckled the whole way, so the surface catches light at many small points rather than as one highlight. Each is capped with a dark embossed metal collar and a ring, and hangs from a brown velvet tie.

Eight centimetres is a mid-sized bauble, and the pear hangs nose down from its cap, so it reads as a solid form rather than as one more sphere. Green on a green tree goes quiet and the gold across the lower half is what keeps it visible, so a bare branch suits them better than foliage. Three of them mark out a wreath or a small tree; on a full-height tree they sit among larger decorations.

The glass is recycled. It is collected, crushed and melted down before it is blown by hand, and that is what leaves the mottled surface, so no two pears carry the speckling in the same places. The caps are metal, embossed and darkened, and the ties are brown velvet.
