Description

The Jarvis Fixed is a round recessed downlight for the ceiling: a slim ring of trim around a deep reflector that sets the light source well back from view. It is finished in Matt Black and measures 8.5cm across. You choose the light source, as it comes in two versions: a Lampholder (bulb not included), or an Integrated LED, 3000K, 60°. The integrated LED version needs no bulb at all. It draws 10W and gives 680lm of warm white light at 3000K, with a CRI of 80 and a 60° beam. The lampholder version takes a bulb of your own choosing.

We think it is happiest on a kitchen ceiling, set out in rows over a worktop or an island, where a run of small downlights gives even, practical light without crowding the space. The 60° beam of the integrated LED version spreads a generous pool of light for everyday tasks such as preparing food, reading a recipe and serving up, rather than picking out a single spot. At 8.5cm across, the downlight stays small and quiet in a plain plaster ceiling, and the Matt Black finish sits well in a modern kitchen. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

Before you buy, check the space above your ceiling. The fitting needs a recess depth of 14cm and a cut-out 7.5cm across, so it suits ceilings with a reasonable void above. It runs on 230V mains power and is wired in to the mains by a qualified electrician. It is a Class II fitting, a detail your electrician will want to know when planning the circuit. Settle on the light source before the ceiling work begins: the integrated LED version needs no bulb, while the lampholder version needs one fitted once it is in place.
