Janoni 5 x 7 Carved Mango Wood Photo Frame - Natural

The Janoni is a photo frame carved from mango wood, taking a 5 x 7 inch photograph in a frame 25.5cm tall and 20.3cm wide. The face is cut in chevrons that run in from all four corners and meet along the middle of each rail, and a plain raised lip steps down to the aperture. The cuts are deep enough to catch the light on one side of each groove, and the stain sits darkest where the chisel has been.

It stands on a hinged strut on the back rather than hanging, and it is not made for a wall. At 25.5cm tall it is a shelf, sideboard or bedside frame, and it stands upright alongside the smaller Janoni. The carved border is wide, so the frame takes up noticeably more space than the print inside it.

The wood is mango, carved by hand before a deep stain is worked over it, which is what makes the grain and the cut edges read as strongly as they do. No two frames carry the same grain. Glass is fitted over the aperture. The Janoni is also made in a 4 x 6 size; the photograph is not included.

What size photograph does it take?

5 x 7 inches. The frame itself is 25.5 x 20.3cm.

Can it hang on a wall?

No. It stands upright on a hinged strut on the back.

Is there glass in it?

Yes, over the aperture.

What is the carving?

Chevrons, cut by hand into the face before the stain goes on, so the pattern and the grain differ from frame to frame.

How do I look after it?

Wipe the wood over regularly with a soft dry cloth so dust and dirt do not settle in the carving. For the glass, use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion.
