Description

A standing photo frame in mango wood, 21.5cm tall and 16.5cm wide, holding a 4 by 6 inch photograph. The border is wide and flat and is carved all over with short chevron cuts, angled in from each edge to meet in a line down the middle of each side and mitred where they turn a corner. A deep stain sits in the cuts and holds them darker than the face, so the pattern reads as shadow as much as line. The print sits behind glass.

It stands on a hinged strut at the back and is made to stand rather than to hang. At 21.5cm tall it belongs on a shelf, a mantelpiece or a bedside table, and the frame is portrait.

The frame is mango wood. The chevrons are cut by hand before the stain goes on, so the depth of the cut and the way the stain takes vary from frame to frame, and the grain runs differently through every one. The Janoni frame is also made for a 5 by 7 inch photograph.
