Description

A picture frame for an 8 by 10 inch photograph, cast in aluminium and finished in antique brass. The section is heavy: a wide flat band with a rounded outer edge that steps down on the inside to meet the glass, and the frame weighs 1.14kg. The casting has not been polished back, so the face is pocked and grainy like raw metal, brighter where it stands proud and darker down in the pits.

It goes on the wall either way up. There is a hanger cast into two adjacent edges of the back, so a portrait picture and a landscape one both hang from a single fixing with nothing to change over. Three sizes group on one wall, hung at different heights and turned different ways. At 2cm deep the frame lies close to the plaster.

Aluminium and glass, with the brass laid on as a finish rather than being the metal underneath. Nothing is polished off after the casting, so the grain and the pitting across the face are the surface the metal came out with. This is the middle of the three Jahala sizes; the other two take 5 by 7 and 11 by 14 inch pictures.

Frequently Asked

What size picture does it hold?

8 by 10 inches.

Which way up does it hang?

Either. A hanger is cast into two adjacent edges of the back, so it takes a portrait or a landscape picture from one fixing.

How heavy is it?

1.14kg.

What are the other sizes?

The Jahala takes 5 by 7 and 11 by 14 inch pictures as well.

How do I look after it?

A soft, dry cloth on the frame will stop dust and dirt building up, and a microfibre cloth used in a circular motion is best on the glass.
