Description

The Jagan is a pair of nesting side tables cast in aluminium, the larger 55cm tall and the smaller 48cm. Each has a flat rectangular top that runs straight down into a deep apron at the front and the back, and four legs that start square at the corner and taper to a fine point at the floor. The cast surface keeps the pitting and the markings of the sand mould, and is finished by hand after the metal is poured.

Nested, the smaller table sits under the larger and the two read as one narrow table 50cm wide. Apart they give two surfaces at different heights, 55cm and 48cm, one for a lamp and one for a glass. They stand beside a sofa with the small one drawn forward. At 26cm and 22cm deep neither takes much floor.

Both tables are aluminium, poured into sand moulds and finished by hand, so the texture and the small markings differ from one table to the next. The aged black finish reads close to black in a room and browner where the light catches the cast grain. The pair weighs 7.2kg together.
