Description
The Iya is a bed frame built from reclaimed wood that once served as ceiling beams in Indian homes. The headboard is made from three solid planks and stands 110cm from the floor, and the frame around it is chunky rather than fine, so the grain, the knots and the marks left by the first use of the timber all stay in plain sight. This is the Super King, 189cm across and 215cm from the head to the foot.
At 189cm across and 215cm from head to foot, the bed needs a wall long enough to take the headboard and enough floor left over to walk on both sides. The headboard stands 110cm from the floor. The frame holds up to 425kg and weighs 121.3kg itself, so it is built in the room it will stay in. Assembly is required, and the instruction manual is linked below.
Every plank is reclaimed. The beams are salvaged one at a time and keep their grain patterns, their weathered texture and their natural imperfections, and the raw edges are left as they were found, so no two beds carry the same marks. The frame is shaped and put together by hand, and the wood is treated with a sealant. The Iya is made in two bed sizes, this Super King and a King at 159cm across, and the range runs on to a wardrobe, a tall boy, two chests of drawers and a bedside table. The mattress is not included.

Frequently Asked
What size is this bed?
Super King. The frame measures 189cm across and 215cm from head to foot, and the headboard stands 110cm from the floor.
How much weight will the frame take?
Up to 425kg.
Is a mattress included?
No. The frame is sold on its own.
Does it need assembling?
Yes. The instruction manual is linked above.
Will the wood be marked?
Yes, and that is the material. The planks were ceiling beams before they were a bed, so they carry knots, splits, old fixing marks and a weathered surface, and they differ from one bed to the next.
How do I look after it?
Wipe the surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth to remove dust and moisture, working in the direction of the grain. Mild soap and water can be used, but take care not to use excess water, which may damage the finish. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive materials away from it, and keep it out of strong direct sunlight, which causes fading. Extremes of heat and humidity can cause cracking and splitting.
