Description

The Iya is a King bed frame built from reclaimed wood. The headboard is three wide planks set one above the other between two solid uprights, with a narrow gap left open between each plank. Every plank carries the knots, the saw marks and the colour changes of timber that has had a working life already, so the figure runs differently across each one. Below it the frame is a deep plain rail on four square posts, and there is no footboard.

The frame stands 110cm at the headboard and measures 159cm wide by 215cm long, so it wants a wall run of at least 1.6m and a little over two metres of floor from the headboard to the foot. It takes a King mattress. The base is a set of pale slats joined by woven webbing straps, resting on a ledge inside the rails, so the mattress sits down within the frame rather than on top of it. The frame is rated to 375kg.

The wood is reclaimed from ceiling beams taken out of traditional Indian homes and reworked by hand, so no two frames arrive in the same tone. The Iya range is made in this King and in a Super King, and runs to a bedside table, a small and a large chest of drawers, a tall boy and a wardrobe. The mattress and the bedding are not included.

Frequently Asked

What size mattress does it take?

A King. The frame measures 159cm wide and 215cm long overall, and the mattress sits down inside the rails on the slatted base.

Is a mattress included?

No. The headboard, the frame and the slatted base are supplied. The mattress and the bedding are not.

Does it need assembling?

Yes. It is supplied for assembly and the instruction manual is linked under Downloads above.

How much weight will it carry?

Up to 375kg.

How do I look after it?

Wipe the surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth to lift dust and moisture, always working in the direction of the grain. Mild soap and water can be used, but not much water, as excess will damage the finish. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive materials away from it, and keep it out of strong direct sunlight, which fades the wood. Sharp changes of heat and humidity can make the timber crack or split. Rubber and plastic left in contact with the surface will react with it, so do not stand either on the wood.

Will every frame look the same?

Not exactly. Every plank is salvaged, so the knots, the figure and the tone vary from one frame to the next.
