Description

The Iswa is a dining chair built on a frame of black iron tube, with a padded seat in black goat leather and a back panel of woven cane set in a solid mango wood surround. The back panel floats: it is carried at the top of two bare uprights with an open gap between it and the seat, so the chair reads as light from across a room even with a solid seat. The cane is woven in a fine open hexagonal mesh, and the mango frame around it is left pale with the grain showing through.

The seat sits 48cm from the floor and measures 40cm across by 36cm deep. Overall the chair is 84cm tall, 44cm wide and 48.5cm deep, so two will stand side by side along less than a metre of table edge. The legs splay a little outward towards the floor, so it stands wider at the base than at the seat. There are no arms to catch under a table edge, and it works at a desk as readily as at a dining table.

The frame is iron and the seat is a soft black goat leather. The cane back is woven by hand using traditional methods and set into a solid mango wood surround, and it is that surround which carries the support rather than the cane itself. The Iswa runs to six chairs: dining chairs in black, green and tan, and counter stools in tan, rich green and aged black. Chairs are sold singly.
