Description
The Knightsbridge IP55 weatherproof enclosure box is a 334 x 220 x 116mm polycarbonate housing designed to protect outdoor electrical connections from rain, dust and impact. The IP55 rating confirms protection against low-pressure water jets from any direction and ingress of dust, while the IK06 impact rating handles moderate knocks from garden equipment or accidental contact.
Designed for outdoor seasonal lighting installations, garden power distribution and weatherproofing permanent outdoor socket circuits, the enclosure houses 4-gang trailing sockets, junction boxes, WiFi controllers, timers or small transformers. A pre-cut 5-channel gasket on one end accepts one incoming cable and up to four outgoing cables, sealing around standard flex or SWA cable when tightened. The wall-mounting bracket fixes to brick, timber or render using appropriate fixings (not supplied), keeping the box off the ground and clear of standing water.
The screwless lid design uses a clip-lock mechanism that opens and closes without tools, making it accessible for seasonal re-wiring or fault-finding without needing a screwdriver. A velcro pad inside the base and additional velcro tape (supplied) allow lightweight devices such as timers or WiFi modules to be secured without drilling the enclosure interior. The black polycarbonate construction resists UV degradation better than ABS and maintains its finish over multiple outdoor seasons.

Frequently Asked
Can this be used for permanent outdoor socket installations?
Yes. The IP55 rating makes it suitable for permanent outdoor installations where the enclosure is wall-mounted and not sitting in standing water. It is commonly used to house 4-gang trailing sockets fed from an RCD-protected circuit, providing weatherproof outdoor power distribution for gardens, patios and workshops.
What size cables does the gasket accept?
The 5-channel gasket accepts one incoming cable and up to four outgoing cables. It seals around standard 3-core flex (1.5mm² to 2.5mm²) and can accommodate small-diameter SWA cable depending on the outer sheath diameter. Tightening the gasket compresses it around the cables to maintain the IP55 seal.
Is the enclosure lockable?
No. The screwless clip-lock mechanism does not accept a padlock. If security is required, consider mounting the enclosure in a location not accessible from ground level or inside a locked outer cabinet.
What fixings are needed for wall mounting?
The mounting bracket is supplied with the enclosure. Wall fixings (screws, plugs or bolts) are not included and should be selected based on the mounting surface — use appropriate masonry fixings for brick or block, wood screws for timber sheds, or stainless steel bolts for metal posts.
